The way that the current book that I'm reading travels with me just depends on which mood I am going through throughout the day. I'm currently reading two books when dealing with burnout in peoples' personal and professional lives. That one is actually an e-book and I listen to it whenever I myself am going through burn out throughout my day or I just have some little downtime. The second book that I'm reading is a physical copy of a self-help book in regards to how to live the most productive life. I like to read this book at home and I usually keep it next to my night stand. Usually after a long day of work, school and life I like to end my day reading at least a page or two (or a chapter) of this book. Lastly, I also try to read a chapter of the Bible a couple times a week. Sometimes I feel guilty because I don't have the time to actively sit down and read, but I do try to at least read through the Bible app once a day. My journaling Bible is in my desk to the left side of me and it's on top of the stack of books. But having it in this location would motivate me to actually sit down highlight and read Bible verses and it helps me concentrate on what I'm reading rather than just reading it on my bed.
Times are the day that I could possibly do reading would be early in the morning. I tend to wake up early earlier in order for me to have a slow morning half time to get ready and be able to get my day started. Since I do take a while to get ready, I'd like to incorporate at least 15 minutes of me to just sit down and either read the Bible or read for pleasure. This helps me get mentally prepared for the day and helps me focus on something that is not work related.
Some possible places for reading largely depend on what you're reading, when you're reading and how you're reading. For example, if I am reading a chapter for class, I like to be in a more quiet space such as a library or my own room. I need to be sitting in a chair and either using a table or a desk for me to fully concentrate and to be able to highlight and underline anything that's important when I'm reading. Whenever I'm reading for pleasure it largely depends on the continent of what I'm reading. If I'm reading my Bible, I'd like to be in a more private place such as a room, But if I'm reading for pleasure I'd like to be either in a room or even in a coffee shop. If you're reading it more public places such as the library, coffee shop or bus, It's mostly based on literacy that's not as Critical that you may need to explain to others or write an essay about. Some challenges that can be found when reading in a room can be that you may be tired or you may become sleepy because of the quietness of it all. Furthermore, reading in a coffee shop can become distracting if you're not a disciplined person when it comes to reading. You need to check the atmosphere and show yourself that it's a adequate place to read.
I currently don't have anybody that I would hold myself accountable to when it comes to reading. With busy lives and schedules, it's convenient to have an accountability partner which would help in reading and reflecting on books. Sometimes when I'm reading about books, I think about my friends and that are perhaps going through similar issues that I'm currently facing and there are some words or phrases that are said in self-help books that can impact the lives of friends.
If I wanted to challenge myself and my reading, I would start reading peer review journals or even Reading about what I'm currently learning in grad school. I truly enjoy reading about literacy and the case studies are teachers and researchers have done across the country and even internationally. It would raise a lot of questions about my own thoughts of teaching and reflect on what are the best practices for a specific set of students. Overall educating myself on my degree has benefited me and has equip me to become a better educator.
