As I was reviewing "The Last Stop on Market Street"by Matt de la Peña (Caldecott, 2016), I noticed that the illustrator used their creativity skills to further enhance the text. As we are looking at the visual "art" of this book, the design of these elements makes it able to see the composition of the art in a unique and meaningful way.
In the book, the part of the story whenever CJ gets into the bus, we are able to see the variety of different people that are riding the bus. People of different ethnic groups, gender, and economic growth. Overall, these illustrations helps the reader understand and give better context to how CJ was riding in a place where there were many people probably did not know or have social means. This representational art does help bring light into how people perceive themselves and how they can further feel identified by the illustrations.
